The Greatest Entertainer That Ever Lived
I am so happy to come out of blog retirement to give honor to God and to a man who through music and without hiding behind religion did preach so well the gospel message.Nearly every song Michael Jackson ever wrote or sang was about love. Michael was 50 when he left this world. I'm 52, so I remember the Michael of the Jackson 5 era, the Motown era, the Quincy Jones collaborations, before the media, as it so often does, attempted to destroy the image of one whom God has sent to the world to teach the world about love and to demonstrate that love by example. What I know about Michael Jackson transcends media speculation, courtroom drama, and Congressman Peter King's demonization. I know that Michael Jackson's music has forever filled my heart with images of God's love.Often the heart of the artist can only be truly known through his music. Our lives often appear to be an unkind contradiction to the words that we write; the songs that we sing often point out the hypocrisy and weaknesses in us. I can only pray that none of you will judge me according to the deeds I have committed in my life. I don't know about Michael's deeds, but I can tell you right now that I am guilty of the things that I have been accused of doing, things that I am ashamed of and don't want my children to remember me by. One reason why I keep writing is to try to create a positive legacy to compensate for some of the sordid details of my pre-Christ era, and even in my Christ-era I struggle! What Congressman Peter King and some of you other Pharisees may not understand is that God is still in charge and He is the only one who can judge...I thought He made that clear when He drew the line in the sand, when He asked those without sin to cast the first stone! Oh, I know it must be difficult for the Congressman to forgive what he believes Michael has done. Perhaps it brings back some subconscious memory of something that may have happened to him, or someone that he loves...or perhaps, something he himself may have done? After all, what kind of a God would forgive someone who would abuse and scar a child for life?I know it is hard for some of you to believe that Jesus Christ could forgive the most awful deed that we can imagine. We feel more comfortable when there are boundaries, limits on things that we are comfortable with that fit into our finite existence. But my hope is that God's grace is without limits! His forgiveness may have to reach much further than you think to save me, or Michael, or maybe even you, Congressman King! I thank God that He has decided not to let YOU judge me, or Michael. Your eulogy for Michael Jackson is that he was a pervert, a child molester and you have no proof to validate your slanderous, insensitive commentary. In your eulogy for me you would tell the world that I was a crackhead, a wife abuser, a convicted felon and with your poor timing you would gladly release that information to my eight year-old daughter on the day that I died. But I am glad that Jesus Christ has unfathomable grace and forgiveness, because your cruelty and insensitivity to Michael Jackson's family, his children and his fans is also unfathomable. But because God has offered me His unlimited and unconditional love and forgiveness, I can reach down into that bottomless well and draw out enough love to forgive Michael, even if he did what you say he did! I might find enough love in that well to forgive even you!
